Asset Manager

Asset management at scale in single-family rental looks different from most AM roles. You're not managing a handful of apartment communities with on-site teams you can walk the halls with. You're advising on scattered-site portfolios across multiple markets, working through data and cross-functional relationships to move the needle on NOI for institutional investors who expect precise, timely answers.

What This Role Actually Involves

Roofstock's Mynd Investment Management team is looking for a Senior Asset Manager to serve as the primary relationship owner for institutional investor clients and the internal connective tissue between property management, leasing, construction, acquisitions, dispositions, and accounting. That's a wide surface area, and the role demands someone who can hold all of it without dropping threads.

Day to day, you'll be reviewing portfolio performance across occupancy, rent growth, renewals, leasing velocity, and turn timelines, then translating what you find into actionable recommendations for both your clients and the internal teams executing against those goals. You'll lead monthly budget-to-actual variance analysis, support annual budgets for large scattered-site SFR portfolios and smaller build-to-rent communities, and maintain financial models for lender tape deliverables. When a portfolio is underperforming, you're the person who diagnoses why and drives a corrective plan across teams you don't directly manage.

You'll also advise on hold/sell decisions, support the buying team on market trends and buy box strategy, and keep a working knowledge of operating conditions across the markets you cover. Occasional travel to those markets is part of the job.

Who Fits Well Here

  • 5 or more years of asset management experience in SFR, BTR, or multifamily
  • Advanced Excel and Google Sheets skills, including large data sets, pivot tables, lookups, and data validation
  • Experience building annual budgets, supporting reforecasts, and preparing variance analysis
  • Familiarity with BI tools like Sigma or similar platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate performance, risk, and recommendations clearly to institutional investors
  • Comfort working through ambiguity and adapting processes as the business grows
  • Willingness to use AI and automation tools to reduce manual work, with the judgment to validate outputs properly

The candidates who stand out in this kind of role aren't just strong analysts. They're people who can sit across from a sophisticated investor, explain a variance in plain language, and then turn around and influence an internal operations team to actually fix the underlying issue. That combination of financial fluency and cross-functional credibility is harder to find than either skill alone.

Context Worth Knowing

Roofstock has grown quickly through acquisitions, and the Mynd platform now serves both retail and institutional investors across long-term and short-term rental strategies. That breadth means you'll encounter varied investor expectations and portfolio structures. The SFR asset management discipline has matured significantly over the past several years as institutional capital has flooded the space, and lender reporting requirements, hold/sell analysis cadences, and capex underwriting have all become more rigorous as a result. Coming in with that institutional SFR context will shorten your ramp considerably. This role is remote, based out of Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Tampa, or Charlotte.
