Leasing Consultant

Student housing and conventional multifamily both need leasing consultants who can close, but student-oriented operators like PeakMade put extra pressure on the leasing cycle. Traffic peaks hard in late winter and spring, renewal decisions happen months before move-out, and a prospect who doesn't hear back within hours often signs somewhere else. This part-time role at a PeakMade community in Akron is built around that reality.

What the Role Actually Involves

Your primary job is converting leads into signed leases across phone, email, in-person tours, and online inquiries. That means responding fast, running tours that uncover what a prospect actually needs, creating urgency without being pushy, and following through on every lead until you get a yes or a definitive no. You'll track all of it in a CRM (Yardi, Entrata, or RealPage, depending on the property), and you'll be expected to keep that data accurate, not just current.

Beyond the front-end sales work, you'll handle lease paperwork, collect deposits, support move-in and move-out events, and help keep the model unit and office presentation in shape. During turn season, you'll assist with the process of getting units ready for the next wave of residents. You'll also stay sharp on competitor pricing and run market surveys as needed. The role touches enough of the operation that you'll learn how a community actually functions, not just how its leasing office looks from the lobby.

  • 1 or more years in sales or leasing, with a track record of hitting conversion targets
  • Comfort with CRM platforms and disciplined multi-touch follow-up habits
  • Availability on weekends and during peak leasing hours
  • Strong communication and the ability to read what a prospect needs quickly

Where This Role Can Take You

Part-time leasing is one of the more underrated entry points in property management. You build closing skills and CRM fluency, but you also get exposure to operations, lease administration, and resident retention. Consultants who demonstrate strong conversion rates and a clean pipeline often move into full-time leasing roles, then into Leasing Manager or Assistant Manager positions where they're coaching others on the same skills they developed here. The commission structure means your earnings grow with your performance, which also means your results are visible in a way that accelerates recognition.

What separates strong candidates from average ones here is follow-up discipline. Most leasing consultants are reasonably good on the tour itself. The ones who consistently hit occupancy targets are the ones running multi-touch outreach sequences without being reminded, personalizing each follow-up, and keeping their CRM data clean enough that nothing falls through. If you've built that habit somewhere else, whether in apartment leasing, retail sales, or another high-volume sales environment, you'll have a head start.
