Part Time Leasing Consultant
Village GreenA prospective resident walks in on a Tuesday afternoon having toured three communities that week already. They're comparing floor plans, weighing commute times, and still not sure what they actually want. Your job in that moment is to listen well enough to cut through the noise and match them to the right home.
Village Green is hiring a part-time Leasing Consultant for one of its apartment communities in Columbus, Ohio. The schedule runs two weekdays plus one Saturday each week, which makes this a realistic option for candidates who need flexibility without fully stepping away from a professional sales environment. The base rate is $17.38 per hour, with a commission structure on top of that tied to your leasing performance.
What the Role Involves
This is a resident-facing sales position. You'll handle incoming traffic from prospective residents, qualify their needs quickly, and guide them through the leasing process from initial inquiry to signed lease. Beyond new leases, you'll maintain relationships with current residents and deliver the kind of service that keeps renewals strong. Village Green places meaningful weight on customer experience, so the role carries both a sales expectation and a service standard.
- Identify prospective residents' needs and match them to available homes
- Manage follow-up with leads and guide prospects through the decision process
- Build relationships with current residents to support retention
- Participate in the commission program tied to leasing results
- Represent the community professionally during weekend availability
What Village Green Is Looking For
One to two years of sales experience is the baseline. That experience can come from retail, hospitality, or multifamily leasing directly. Candidates with prior apartment leasing background will find the transition straightforward, but strong performers from customer-facing sales roles outside of multifamily often do well here too, since the core skill set transfers cleanly. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is expected. An undergraduate degree is preferred, though relevant experience carries real weight in the evaluation.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are non-negotiable. You'll be writing emails, handling phone inquiries, and having in-person conversations with prospects who are making a significant financial and lifestyle decision. The ability to listen, adjust your approach, and close without being pushy is what separates average leasing consultants from consistently high performers in this type of role.
Columbus is a competitive multifamily market, with steady demand driven by Ohio State, a growing tech and healthcare employment base, and continued in-migration from other Midwest metros. That demand creates real leasing opportunity, but it also means residents have options. Consultants who can articulate what makes a specific community worth choosing, rather than just showing units, tend to perform better here than those relying solely on price comparisons.
Background check and pre-employment drug screening are required. Village Green participates in E-Verify. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, a bonus program, and a 401(k) with employer match, which is notable for a part-time position.
