Maintenance Technician II (Madera)

It's a Tuesday afternoon and you're knee-deep under a kitchen sink when your radio goes off about a tripped breaker in another unit. That's the job. You finish the plumbing, document it, and head to the next one.

Prometheus Real Estate Group is looking for a Maintenance Technician II to join the team at their Madera property in Mountain View, California. Prometheus has operated in the Bay Area since 1965 and holds the largest privately held apartment portfolio in the region, with over 13,000 units across Silicon Valley, Portland, and Seattle. The company operates as a Certified B Corporation and manages its properties in-house across acquisitions, development, value-add renovations, and day-to-day operations.

What the Work Looks Like

Turns are a significant part of this role. You'll work through all phases of apartment make-ready: appliance repairs and installation, plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, and painting. Service requests from current residents fill the rest of your time, with an expectation that you can troubleshoot and repair most major mechanical systems and handle all minor ones independently. Customer interaction is part of every day. Residents notice how you show up, not just whether the faucet got fixed.

On-call availability is required. That means occasional evenings and weekends, and being reachable when something goes wrong after hours. Prometheus does pay standby and on-call premium pay, which is a real acknowledgment that off-hours availability has a cost.

What You Bring

• At least two years of experience in apartment maintenance
• Hands-on competency across plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and appliance work
• High school diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency for work order systems and documentation
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand and move through the day, and work primarily outdoors in moderate temperatures
• Strong communication in English, both written and verbal

Candidates who stand out at this level tend to diagnose quickly without running through every possibility sequentially. They close their work orders clean, with accurate notes, because the next tech and the property manager both depend on that paper trail. If your instinct is to patch and move on without documenting, that habit will create friction here.

Compensation runs from $31.00 to $32.25 per hour, with a discretionary semi-annual bonus and additional incentives including referral, renovation, and lease-up bonuses where applicable.
