Maintenance Technician
The Scion GroupMaintenance Technician roles at student housing properties carry a wider scope than a typical apartment gig. The asset complexity is higher, the resident turnover is seasonal and compressed, and the building systems demand real technical depth. This position at The Lodges in Colorado Springs reflects that.
What the Work Actually Looks Like
This is a full-scope maintenance role, not a service-request-only position. You'll handle daily work orders, make-ready prep on vacated units, and preventive maintenance across major building systems. That includes air handling units with outside condensers, electrical distribution systems, switchgear, domestic hot water systems, UPS equipment, parking structure drainage, and life safety systems including fire pumps, sprinklers, smoke detectors, CO2 alarms, and fire dampers. You'll log everything through Entrata and a CMMS, and Scion also uses Building Automation Systems for monitoring and diagnostics.
On the unit side, you'll inspect vacated apartments, document needed repairs, and perform the hands-on work to get them rent-ready: appliance repair, carpentry, plumbing, painting, basic electrical. Common area upkeep, pressure washing, pool chemical maintenance, and snow removal are also part of the rotation. After-hours emergency response is real here. On-call coverage is expected outside approved PTO.
What Scion Requires
- High school diploma, GED, or trade school credential plus 3 to 5 years of full-time maintenance experience
- HVAC certification and EPA 608 (Type I and II)
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) license, or a commitment to obtain it within six months
- Comfort with BAS, CMMS, and Entrata (or ability to get up to speed quickly)
- Ability to read blueprints and interpret warranties
- Valid driver's license and physical ability to lift up to 100 lbs. and stand for extended shifts
- Flexible availability for weekends and after-hours emergencies
Where This Role Can Go
Technicians at this level who build strong documentation habits and show comfort with BAS and life safety systems tend to move toward Lead Technician or Maintenance Supervisor roles. Student housing operators like Scion run multi-property portfolios, which means internal mobility is a realistic path for people who perform. The seasonal turn cycle, typically summer, is where your make-ready efficiency will get noticed most. A tech who can keep turns on schedule during peak season stands out quickly.
Compensation includes a discretionary annual bonus, health, dental, and vision coverage, 401k matching, paid maternity leave, and PTO. No visa sponsorship is available.
