Maintenance Technician

A resident puts in a work order at 8 a.m.: the AC stopped cooling overnight and they've got a baby at home. By 9, you've pulled the unit, diagnosed a failed capacitor, swapped it out, and confirmed the system is running correctly before moving on to the next ticket. That's a normal Tuesday at a Weinstein property.

The Work

This is a full-time maintenance technician position at a Weinstein Properties community in south Austin. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with participation in a rotating emergency on-call rotation shared across the team. On-call weeks come with a flat $150 stipend regardless of call volume, plus an additional $150 for holiday coverage. The base pay starts at $22 per hour and goes up based on experience.

Day-to-day, you'll work through a mix of occupied unit repairs and vacant unit make-readies. HVAC troubleshooting and repair will be a regular part of your week, as will plumbing, electrical, appliances, and general carpentry. You'll also help maintain the grounds, amenities, and pool areas. Weinstein owns and manages its own communities rather than operating under third-party management, which means maintenance standards stay consistent and the people setting expectations are invested in the long-term condition of the property.

A quarterly bonus of up to $980 ties your compensation to how the property and team perform together. That structure matters because it reflects how Weinstein actually thinks about maintenance work: as a team effort, not just individual ticket counts.

What the Role Requires

  • At least 3 years of apartment or residential maintenance experience
  • EPA certification (Type II or Universal) required
  • Hands-on HVAC troubleshooting and repair skills
  • Comfortable with work order systems, mobile devices, and basic computer tools
  • Reliable transportation and ability to operate a golf cart on property
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work indoors and outdoors year-round
  • Comfortable on stairs and ladders
  • Background check required

The customer service piece is worth taking seriously here. Residents interact with maintenance more directly than almost anyone else on the team. How you communicate at the door, whether you leave a unit cleaner than you found it, and how you handle a frustrated resident mid-repair all shape how the community feels to the people who live there. Technical skill gets you in the door; how you treat people is what keeps residents renewing.

Weinstein has a track record of promoting from within. Technicians who build reliability, sharpen their diagnostic skills, and show they can work with the broader team tend to move into lead or supervisor roles over time. If that's a direction you're interested in, this company is structured to make it possible.
