This is a hands-on maintenance role at Catherine Commons, a student housing property in Ithaca, New York. You're responding to service requests, completing make-readies before residents move in, and keeping the property's systems running day to day. That means basic plumbing, appliance repair, painting, carpentry, and electrical work. It also means preventive maintenance: cleaning coils and condensers, swapping air filters, lubricating equipment, and catching small issues before they become expensive ones.
Documentation matters here. Every completed work order gets logged with notes on what you did, parts used, and any follow-up needed. You're also responsible for flagging supply needs before they run out. Student housing runs on tight turn schedules, and the team needs accurate, timely information to stay on track.
You'll carry an on-call rotation. After-hours and weekend calls are part of the deal. Ithaca winters are real, and the property expects you to show up when things go wrong off the clock.
Student housing has a distinct rhythm compared to conventional multifamily. Lease terms are often tied to the academic calendar, which means the summer turn window is compressed and high-volume. Every unit needs to be cleaned, repaired, and ready before move-in day. Strong technicians in this environment are the ones who can work efficiently through a punch list without cutting corners, and who communicate clearly when a unit isn't going to be ready on time.
The pay range for this role in New York is $24 to $26 per hour, with a discretionary annual bonus and a full benefits package including health, dental, vision, 401k matching, paid parental leave, and learning reimbursement. Scion does not sponsor work visas.
