Part-time leasing roles at multifamily communities often get undersold. The work is genuinely relational. You're the first voice someone hears when they call, the first face they see on a tour, and sometimes the reason a prospect signs a lease instead of walking away to the next community down the road.

What You're Actually Doing Day to Day

Hawthorne Residential Partners is one of the larger Southeast-based multifamily operators in the country, and this opening is at Hawthorne at the Ridge in Madison, Alabama. As a part-time Leasing Consultant (internally called a Leasing and Live It Specialist), your core job is converting interest into signed leases while making sure current residents feel like they belong there.

That means greeting prospects with genuine warmth, running personalized tours that connect the physical space to how someone actually wants to live, and following up on leads through phone, email, and web inquiries without letting anything fall through the cracks. You'll also handle the paperwork side: applications, verifications, and move-in documentation. It's not glamorous, but accuracy here matters a lot for compliance and for giving new residents a smooth start.

Beyond leasing, you'll support resident events, help maintain common areas and the leasing office, assist with social media and local outreach, and keep an eye on what competing communities are doing. The office runs Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM. Weekend and some evening availability may come up depending on community events.

Who Fits This Role Well

  • Someone with at least one year of customer service, sales, or direct leasing experience (preferred, not required)
  • A communicator who's equally comfortable talking on the phone, writing a follow-up email, and reading the room on a tour
  • Someone who handles objections without getting rattled and can naturally guide a prospect toward a decision
  • A person who's open to coaching and genuinely willing to learn Hawthorne's internal processes and culture standards
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent; a valid driver's license is required; CALP certification is a plus

One honest note: leasing is a sales role. The relationship-building part feels good, but you're also responsible for occupancy and renewal numbers. Strong candidates come in understanding both sides of that. The warmth is real, and so is the accountability.

Growth and Compensation

This position earns hourly pay plus monthly leasing and renewal commissions, along with leasing incentive programs. The commission structure is meaningful in this role because your follow-through directly affects your paycheck. Hawthorne also has a defined career path program, and the Leasing Consultant to Assistant Community Manager pipeline is a real one, not just a talking point. For someone earlier in their property management career, part-time leasing is one of the better ways to build the traffic handling, objection management, and resident relations skills that carry forward into site management roles.
