Leasing Consultant

Leasing sits at the front door of every apartment operation, and the skills you build there compound fast. A strong leasing consultant learns to read traffic patterns, understand concessions strategy, and close leases in competitive markets. Those fundamentals carry directly into assistant manager roles, then property management, then regional oversight. Prometheus, the largest privately held apartment owner in the Bay Area with more than 13,000 units across Silicon Valley, Portland, and Seattle, is hiring a Leasing Consultant for their Alderwood community in Santa Clara.

What This Role Actually Involves

Prometheus calls this position a Neighbor Ambassador, and the title reflects a real operational philosophy rather than marketing language. You're handling three distinct functions simultaneously: guiding prospective residents through the leasing process from first inquiry to signed agreement, maintaining the administrative backbone of the community (market surveys, occupancy reports, rental postings, lease paperwork), and keeping current residents genuinely satisfied with where they live. That's a broader scope than a pure leasing role at many companies, and it's worth taking seriously as a credential builder.

Weekend availability is required. Saturday and Sunday are peak traffic days for apartment communities, so your regular days off will fall during the week. If you're coming from retail, hospitality, or food service, this schedule will feel familiar. If you're not, it's worth factoring in before you apply.

Qualifications and Compensation

Prometheus hires across industries and doesn't require prior property management experience. What they're looking for:

  • Genuine comfort in customer-facing, sales-oriented environments
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to self-manage day-to-day priorities
  • An entrepreneurial, problem-solving mindset
  • Alignment with a team-oriented culture that takes its B Corporation status seriously

The base pay runs $25.00 to $26.25 per hour, with a $200 per-lease incentive, a discretionary semi-annual bonus, and weekend shift premium pay layered on top. Additional bonuses exist for referrals, lease-up assignments, renovation projects, and training coaching. The benefits package is unusually strong for this level: Prometheus covers 100% of medical, vision, and dental premiums for eligible employees and dependents, offers 401(k) with employer matching, and includes tenure-based housing discounts that become more meaningful as you stay.

One thing that separates strong candidates from average ones at this level: the ability to treat administrative work with the same care as a guest interaction. Leasing consultants who let paperwork slide create delinquency exposure and compliance gaps that follow a property for months. The candidates who advance treat the back-office side of leasing as seriously as the front-door side.
