Leasing Consultant

It's a Saturday morning, 9 a.m. sharp, and you've got two back-to-back tours booked before lunch. You pull up the CRM, confirm your guest cards are current, do a quick walk of the model and a vacant unit on the punch list from yesterday, and you're ready. That's the rhythm of this role at Ackermann Group, and if that kind of structured, people-centered pace appeals to you, it's worth reading on.

The Role

Ackermann Group has been developing and managing residential communities across the Midwest since 1938, and their Columbus-area portfolio reflects that long institutional history. They're hiring a full-time Leasing Consultant to represent their communities to prospective residents, maintain occupancy, and serve as a daily point of contact for current residents.

The core of the job is converting traffic into leases. That means greeting prospects, conducting tours, building genuine rapport quickly, and following through on every step of the leasing process, from the initial guest card to lease preparation and move-in documentation. You'll work in Yardi Voyager and Rent Cafe to track prospects, log interactions, and schedule follow-ups, and you'll be expected to keep that data clean and current.

Beyond leasing, this position carries real operational weight. You'll do routine inspections of units and common areas, flag anything that isn't market-ready, handle minor tidying yourself, and coordinate with the maintenance team on anything more involved. Resident service requests you receive get documented and routed appropriately. When resident concerns come up, the expectation is that you take initiative rather than waiting for direction.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with rotating Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You'll also participate in after-hours resident events periodically and may support community outreach efforts.

What Ackermann Is Looking For

  • Prior customer service experience, required. Leasing or sales background, strongly preferred
  • Comfort with property management software, specifically Yardi Voyager and Rent Cafe. Microsoft Office proficiency expected
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trust with prospective residents in a short window
  • Ability to work as part of a close-knit site team, including maintenance staff and a Community Manager
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Columbus is a competitive multifamily market, with consistent population growth driven by Ohio State, a diversifying tech and healthcare employment base, and steady in-migration from other Midwest metros. That means prospects often have real choices, and the leasing consultants who perform best here are the ones who know their product and their submarket well enough to make a clear, honest case for why this community fits. Generic sales energy doesn't close leases in a market with real options. Specific, informed conversations do.

Compensation includes an hourly rate plus commission on new and renewed leases. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) with company match, paid time off, a birthday holiday, an employee rent discount at Ackermann communities, and access to career coaching and development resources.
