Leasing Consultant

Leasing is one of the few roles in property management where you can enter with a customer service background and, within a year or two, be running the front office of a multifamily community. At Hawthorne Residential Partners, that path is built into the job description rather than left to chance. The company's internal career progression puts the Leasing Consultant role directly below Assistant Community Manager, and their Learning and Development program exists specifically to close that gap.

The position is based at Hawthorne at Hixson, a community in Hixson, TN, where you'd be the first voice prospects hear and the first face they see. Your days will center on touring apartments, converting leads to signed leases, and keeping the resident experience warm after move-in. That means following up on web and phone inquiries, completing leasing paperwork accurately, supporting renewal goals, and helping organize resident events that build a genuine sense of community. The office runs Monday through Friday, 9 to 6, and Saturdays from 10 to 4, with one weekday off each week to keep you at 40 hours. Occasional evenings may come up around community events.

Compensation here is structured to reward performance. Beyond an hourly base, you're eligible for monthly leasing commissions and renewal bonuses, which means your income grows directly with your ability to close and retain residents. That commission structure is a good early lesson in how NOI thinking works at the property level, and it's the kind of context that makes the jump to a management role feel natural rather than abstract.

What the Role Asks Of You

  • At least one year in customer service, sales, or apartment leasing (preferred, not required)
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • A CALP designation is a plus if you already have it
  • Comfort communicating across phone, email, and in-person conversations

What separates strong leasing consultants from average ones isn't usually the ability to give a tour. It's the follow-up. Most prospects visit two or three communities before deciding. The ones who choose Hawthorne do so because someone followed up with them thoughtfully, remembered a detail from the conversation, and answered their specific question rather than giving a scripted response. If that kind of relationship-building comes naturally to you, this role builds real, transferable skills in sales, resident retention, and community operations that carry value well beyond this particular job.

Hawthorne is one of the 50 largest multifamily operators in the country, with a concentration in the Southeast. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401k match, paid time off (including your birthday), pet insurance, and paid parental and adoption leave. Telehealth access and company-paid life insurance round out the package.
