This role puts you at the front door of Dexter Street Commons, a John M. Corcoran property in Pawtucket. Your primary job is converting traffic into signed leases. That means touring apartments, walking prospective residents through pricing and lease terms, processing applications, and building lease packages that set new residents up for a smooth move-in. You're the first real impression people get of the community, and that matters every single day.
Beyond the tour itself, you'll own a slice of the marketing work: setting leasing goals, posting on social media, managing the property's web presence, and finding creative ways to keep the phone ringing and the inbox active. You'll also stay connected with current residents throughout their tenancy, handle property inspections to keep curb appeal sharp, and support your team on the administrative side of lease management.
The schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 9am to 5pm. That's worth knowing upfront. Weekends are when prospective renters have time to visit, so Saturday is a core workday here, not an exception.
You don't need years of property management experience to walk in the door. This is a role that's genuinely designed to teach the business. What you do need is the interpersonal foundation: the ability to listen well, communicate clearly, and stay organized when multiple things are happening at once.
Leasing consultant is one of the best entry points into property management because it forces you to develop two skill sets at once: sales and operations. You'll learn how to read a prospect, handle objections, and close. You'll also learn lease administration, move-in coordination, and how occupancy numbers connect to a property's overall performance. Those are transferable skills. Leasing consultants who demonstrate strong results and a grasp of the operational side often move into assistant manager roles, where they take on delinquency tracking, renewal management, and closer involvement with the financial side of the property.
John M. Corcoran has been operating in New England since 1951. That kind of tenure in a regional market means internal promotion is a real path, not just something written in a job posting. The company offers medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, paid time off, holidays, a 401k with company match, and a $2,500 sign-on bonus. Hourly pay runs between $24 and $27.50.
If you're looking for a role where you'll be learning the craft of property management from day one, this is a strong place to start that work.
