Groundskeeper / Porter

It's 8:05 AM and you're already moving. First stop is a parking lot in Tonawanda where last night's wind scattered trash across the lot. You clear it, check the dog waste station, then drive to Hamburg before lunch. That's the rhythm of this role.

What the Work Looks Like

Birgo manages apartment communities across Buffalo, Tonawanda, North Tonawanda, and Hamburg. This groundskeeper position covers those sites, so you'll drive between properties throughout the day rather than staying in one place. Mileage is reimbursed.

Day-to-day, you're keeping the exterior and common areas in shape: parking lots, trash areas, dog waste stations, and landscaped grounds. That means grass cutting, weeding, mulching, and pruning when the season calls for it. When winter hits Buffalo, snow removal and salting walkways becomes a regular part of the schedule. Inside, you'll clean hallways, stairwells, offices, and shared amenity spaces. You'll also assist with basic maintenance and repairs as needs come up.

Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. This is a full-time, year-round position at $20/hour. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage with employer contribution, paid time off, paid holidays, 401(k) match, professional development reimbursement, and discounted rent at Birgo properties.

What You Need

  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation with insurance
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds without assistance
  • Comfort using power tools safely
  • Physical ability to work in confined spaces, climb ladders and stairs, and move across uneven terrain

Birgo describes the ideal candidate as servant-hearted. That's not filler. Curb appeal at a residential property directly shapes how residents feel about where they live, and the groundskeeper is often the most visible person on site. The people who do this job well take pride in the details that most residents only notice when something's wrong. If you're the type who fixes something without being asked, that matters here.

Buffalo winters are real. Snow removal isn't a footnote; it's a core part of the job from November through March. Candidates who've worked outdoor maintenance in Western New York already know what that means.
