A prospective resident tours the model at 10 a.m., follows up with three questions by noon, and signs a lease by Friday. That's the cycle this role runs on, and it runs fast. At Cortland Portofino Place in West Palm Beach, the Community Relations Manager sits at the intersection of leasing performance and daily operations, which means the job is genuinely two things at once.
On the operations side, you'll support the Community Manager in keeping the property running to brand standard. That includes conducting inspections of vacant units, make-ready apartments, and model homes, as well as handling move-in and move-out walkthroughs. You'll monitor curb appeal, flag maintenance needs, track policy compliance, and manage vendor relationships to keep projects on schedule. Fair Housing and OSHA compliance aren't afterthoughts here. They're part of the daily rhythm.
On the leasing side, you own your pipeline. That means prompt follow-up, consultative conversations with prospective residents, accurate CRM records, and consistent attention to conversion metrics. Cortland tracks KPIs closely, so if numbers like conversion rate and lead-to-lease velocity aren't already part of how you think about your work, they will be here. You'll also manage the community's social media presence and plan resident events designed to build retention, not just fill a calendar.
Resident experience runs through both sides of the role. When a current resident has a complex concern, you handle it with urgency and professionalism. When a prospect has objections, you work through them honestly rather than deflecting. The concierge-level standard Cortland expects is consistent, not situational.
One honest note about the role: the blend of leasing and operations means your attention is split on most days. You might be reviewing a punch list on a make-ready in the morning and closing a lease in the afternoon. Candidates who've only done one or the other sometimes underestimate how much discipline it takes to do both well simultaneously. The people who thrive here tend to be highly organized, genuinely comfortable with accountability metrics, and willing to pick up whatever the day requires without waiting to be asked.
Cortland is a vertically integrated multifamily owner and operator, founded in 2005 and currently ranked among the top ten multifamily owners in the U.S. The in-house design, construction, and management structure means decisions move faster than they do at a third-party management shop, and the resources behind the brand are real. This position is based at Portofino Place in West Palm Beach, Florida.
