Cleaner - Part-Time

Redstone Residential
Full-time
On-site
Rexburg, Idaho, United States
$15 - $15 USD hourly
Groundskeeper / Porter

Student housing operations run on tight turns and high curb appeal standards, especially in college markets where prospective residents and their parents form opinions fast. The cleaner role exists because a property can have great amenities and strong leasing numbers, but if the hallways smell like last weekend or the parking garage is a mess, it shows up in renewals and traffic quality.

Redstone Residential operates over 38,000 beds across 20 states and carries one of the larger third-party student housing portfolios in the country. This part-time position is based at their Rexburg, Idaho community and pays $15.00 per hour. There's a 401(k) with up to 6% matching, which is worth noting for a part-time hourly role.

What the Work Actually Looks Like

The core of the job is keeping common areas, hallways, parking garages, and outdoor grounds clean and presentable on a regular schedule. That includes snow and ice removal, trash and debris pickup, animal waste, landscaping upkeep, and watering. You'll also be responsible for cleaning and maintaining the clubhouse, leasing office, model unit, and other interior common spaces. Shifts run four to six hours and require being on your feet the whole time. You'll need to lift 50-plus pounds.

One piece that's specific to student housing: resident cleaning checks. You'll conduct scheduled inspections of residents' apartments to verify they're meeting the property's cleanliness standards. In student communities, this is a standard practice that most conventional multifamily operators don't bother with. It requires a balance of consistency and a decent bedside manner. You're going in to verify compliance, but you're also a face of the property to the residents you encounter.

There's also light assist work on basic repairs and general maintenance tasks as needed.

Who Fits This Role

  • Some janitorial or cleaning background, professional or otherwise
  • Comfortable working independently without daily hand-holding
  • Physically able to handle a standing shift and heavier lifting
  • Genuinely decent with people, especially in resident-facing interactions

The candidate who does well here is someone who takes pride in the physical state of a property and doesn't need someone checking behind them to stay on task. Student housing tends to cycle through this role with people who treat it as temporary, so candidates who show up consistently and work with some initiative tend to stand out quickly. That kind of reliability in a part-time cleaner often opens doors to full-time consideration or crossover into maintenance or porter work as properties grow. Redstone's conventional portfolio is expanding, which means there's at least some reasonable upward path for people who perform.
