It's move-out week at a 500-bed student property, and you're simultaneously processing a damage dispute, coordinating a vendor walk with facilities, and fielding a resident question about their final utility bill. That's a Tuesday in student housing. If that kind of overlap sounds manageable rather than overwhelming, this role is worth a close look.
The Scion Group is hiring an Assistant Community Manager (titled internally as Assistant General Manager) at Northpoint Crossing in College Station, Texas. This is a broad operational role that sits right alongside the General Manager and works in close coordination with the Customer and Sales Experience Manager. You're not narrowly focused on one function. Leasing performance, resident accounts, facilities coordination, team development, and the annual turn all fall within your scope.
On the administrative side, you'll manage resident accounts and utility billing, handle accounts receivable reconciliation, keep delinquency below 2% by month-end, and prepare month-end reports. You'll deliver legal notices, process evictions when required, and post damage charges from quarterly inspections. These are real financial and legal responsibilities, and they require both precision and composure.
Facilities work is part of the job too. You'll conduct monthly property walks, coordinate work orders with staff and vendors, and make sure curb appeal and common areas hold up to the Scion Standard. During annual turn, expect hands-on involvement: move-out inspections, vendor service walks, punch list assistance, and yes, physically helping move furniture and organize resident trash during high-volume turnover periods. Student housing turn is a full team effort, and this role is in the middle of it.
On the customer experience side, you'll help monitor reputation platforms like Google and Yelp, support engagement initiatives, and use KPIs to track leasing velocity, concessions, and market rates alongside the broader sales strategy. Escalated resident concerns come to you, and you're expected to close the loop quickly and identify patterns that point to systemic fixes.
You'll also share in staff development: helping recruit, onboard, and coach team members, contributing to scheduling (including on-call coverage), and stepping in as General Manager when they're out.
The systems list here is worth noting: Entrata, Turnable, ClickUp, Qualtrics, Lattice, and Greenhouse. Familiarity with Entrata in particular will reduce your ramp-up time considerably. If you've used it for lease management, billing, and resident communications, you'll feel at home faster.
What separates strong candidates in a role like this is the ability to context-switch without dropping details. Student housing at a large community runs on tight academic-year timelines, and the margin for error during turn is genuinely small. The people who thrive here tend to be organized without being rigid, direct with residents without being dismissive, and willing to do physical work during crunch periods without treating it as beneath the role.
Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, 401k matching, paid parental leave, paid time off, floating holidays, a discretionary annual bonus, and learning reimbursement. This is a salaried, exempt position based on-site at Northpoint Crossing.
